Royal Mail Belfast and NI delivery problems update Dec 22 – as 9 postcodes listed

Annoyed customers blasted ‘shambles’ as letters taking ’13 days’ to arrive

The Royal Mail today issued a new list of postcodes which are being impacted by widespread problems with deliveries. The new update today, December 22, came as annoyed customers took to social media to wonder where their letters and parcels are.

The deliveries in Northern Ireland are being hit with 9 postcodes in Belfast, Lisburn and Derry listed.

The Royal Mail said the issues were down to resourcing or sickness issues in local offices, and come despite it employing an extra 20,000 people this Christmas. It means for 92 postcodes deliveries of parcels and letters cannot be guaranteed – and may will not arrive in time for December 25.

A spokesperson said: “We aim to deliver to all addresses we have mail for, six days a week. In a small number of local offices, this may temporarily not be possible due to local issues such as high levels of sick absence, resourcing, or other local factors. In those cases, we will rotate deliveries to minimise the delay to individual customers. We also provide targeted support to those offices to address their challenges and restore our service to the high standard our customers would normally receive.

“We’re sorry for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding. We will regularly update customers on the offices most impacted.”

Customers took to social media to vent their anger. Nick said: “Finally, I received the letter, sent 1st class on 3rd December, telling me that my water may be contaminated. It took @RoyalMail 13 days to deliver this important letter sent 1st class! 13 days!” Gary said: “48 hour delivery service. They’ve only had the the parcel for 8 days now without it being delivered. Bobby dazzlers they are.”

Anne said: “@BootsUK do you realise that you carrier @RoyalMail has sorting offices in chaos with parcels mounting up and no one to deliver. Tracking is non existent and you believe your customers have their goods. They haven’t! 151 postcodes are affected including mine!”

Helen said: “@RoyalMail your Deeside office is a shambles, they said yesterday they couldn’t deliver my parcel as no one was in but they did deliver a parcel but not the one I desperately need and paid extra for faster delivery, they said it would be delivered today and I’m still waiting!!!!” John said: “Thanks, @RoyalMail! An inland item I posted First Class on 5 December wasn’t delivered until 16 December. On the plus side, it was delivered to the correct address.“
