Royal Mail bosses told of strike ballot

POSTAL workers have served notice to Royal Mail bosses that they will be balloting for national strike action next week.

The CWU will begin balloting 110,000 members at the Royal Mail Group (RMG) on September 24.

Workers are angry about the proposed fragmentation of the RMG, and are concerned that bosses are not honouring national postal agreements on terms and conditions.

It is likely that the ballot will pass in favour of strike action, and will be the first national postal strike in a decade.

The result is expected to be a major blow to RMG boss Rico Back, who has already suffered the loss of the RMG’s place in the FTSE 100 and faced a shareholder rebellion over his £6 million welcome package in his first year on the job.

CWU general secretary Dave Ward said: “Our members, as always, will stand up and defend their jobs, futures and the service we provide to the people and businesses across the UK.”
