Royal Mail Cart Bowls Club from Spalding wins the Durham Centenary competition

Royal Mail Cart Bowls Club’s season got better as they won the Durham Centenary for the second time in three years on Saturday.

The Spalding club were Lincolnshire’s representative in this competition after winning the Challenge Bowl in 2023.

Wins throughout the season against Parkway (Northamptonshire) and Brampton (Huntingdonshire) set up a final clash with defending champions from Stute (Derbyshire).

Royal Mail Cart Bowls Club won the Durham Centenary for the second time in three years.

The final was played at the English Bowling Federation national championships hosted by Skegness.

Royal Mail Cart started the better of the two teams and were always in control, mainly thanks to the rink skipped by Kevin Ekins, with Simon Lilley and Ben Sharp who won 32-13.

Royal Mail Cart eventually won by 12 shots, 87-75, and lifted the trophy.

Rink scores: Simon Lilley, Ben Sharp and Kevin Ekins won 32-13; John Allen, Steve Hill and Martin Spencer drew 22-22; Tracy Philpott, Phil Cooke and Jordan Philpott lost 15-16; Paul Caress, Dan Mills and Martin Simpson lost 18-24.
