The postal service has recently added hundreds of job vacancies online with the hope of recruiting more team members to help sift through thousands of items of mail this Christmas. So, whether you are looking for ways to ease the cost of living crunch or save towards that special gift, there are job opportunities across four Royal Mail sites where workers could be getting paid as much as £16 an hour. And for successful applicants, the pay might just help to get you through those harsh winter months.

Employer: Royal Mail

Role: Mail sorters. Your daily role entails unloading parcels and letters from vans, transporting them to warehouses and ensuring that packages arrive at their destination safely.

Bristol locations:

  • South West Distribution Centre, Western Approach Distribution Park, Severnside, Bristol, BS35 4GG

  • Bristol Outhouse – TBC

  • Bristol Mail Centre, Gloucester Road North, Filton, Bristol, BS34 7ST

  • Bristol City Delivery Office, Unit 19 Easton Road, Bristol, BS1 1AD

Your daily role entails unloading parcels and letters from vans, transporting them to warehouses and ensuring that packages arrive at their destination safely

There are different shifts available at the Bristol sites. A typical shift pattern is from Monday to Saturday and includes early shifts between 6am and 2pm, late shifts between 2pm and 10pm, and night shifts between 10pm and 6am. There are various shifts available on Sundays. Although formal qualifications are not required for this role, the candidate must be “comfortably able to stand for long periods” and be able to “push trolleys up to 250kgs and lift and move mail bags up to 11kg”.

The role requires you to “enjoy working in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines” and be “proactive and detail-focused”. In addition, Royal Mail asks that candidates are “flexible and happy to switch between various tasks during a shift”
