Royal Mail Christmas jobs in London: The postie roles available for the festive season

If you are looking to earn an extra buck or two over the festive period then Royal Mail may have the answer to your Christmas prayers.

To ensure presents, parcels and letters are delivered on time, Royal Mail is searching for their own helpers at depots across North, South, East and West London.

The roles on offer are ideal for those looking for an additional job or temporary work to fund the most costly time of the year.

Duties will vary according to each specific role but can include sorting mail and parcels manually, unloading mail from vans and operating machinery.

Start dates are between mid-November and mid-December and pay rates are dependent on the role and shifts.

Royal Mail states: “Christmas is our busiest time of year.

“With so many parcels and letters coming through our warehouse doors, it’s no surprise that we need a few thousand extra helping hands to get everything where it needs to go.”

There are some permanent contracts available too.

Here’s everything you need to know:

What are the roles?

Currently, Royal Mail is recruiting roles for postmen and women across London.

They’re looking for people to work as Christmas casuals or for permanent positions in the following Delivery Offices:

  • Jubilee Mail Centre – Hounslow
  • Mount Pleasant Mail Centre (London Central)
  • Bedford Delivery Office
  • Balham Delivery Office
  • Kentish Town Delivery Office
  • Tottenham Delivery Office
  • Barnes Delivery Office
  • Clapton Delivery Office

 

What are the hours?

Typical shifts for Christmas staff are: Earlies (6am to 2pm), Lates (2pm to 10pm) and Nights (10pm to 6am).

What is the pay?

Hourly rates differ depending on each role.

Christmas staff can expect their pay to be £10.50 per hour (days) to £12.46 per hour (nights).

And for permanent roles a salary can start at £12.40 per hour (age 18+) or £9.65 if you are 17.

When you’ve been there six months the adult pay rises to £13.09 an hour and to £13.78 after a year.

Royal Mail says it offers an industry-leading pay and benefits package.
