Royal Mail Christmas jobs on offer near Birmingham with no experience required

With Christmas fast approaching and the cost of living crisis biting now could be the time to get a seasonal job to help pay the bills. And a Royal Mail depot near Birmingham is advertising a number of roles to help get festive deliveries to its customers.

The nation’s postal service is advertising for seasonal mail sorters at its Atherstone Parcel Sorting Centre just over the border in Warwickshire – which is just 30 minutes’ drive from the centre of Birmingham. It says those taking up the jobs will ‘play a key role in delivering Christmas to the nation’.

The role includes unloading mail and parcels from vans and moving them through the sorting centre and also helping to sort letters. Those wanting to apply must enjoy ‘working in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines’.

They must be able to ‘demonstrate flexibility’ and be happy to ‘switch between various tasks during a shift’. And they must be fit to – able to push trolleys weighing up to 250kgs and move mail bags weighing in at up to 11kgs.

There is also a requirement to be able to ‘stand up for long periods’. On the plus said any applicant does not have to have worked for the Royal Mail before.

But experience in a warehouse or with sorting work would be looked upon favourably. As will previous experience at a rival company with the Royal Mail saying ‘If you’ve worked for another distribution company then you’re on our wish list too!’

The jobs are shift work, with a typical shift on lates being 2pm to 10pm, on Mondays to Saturdays. The pay is said to be £12.99 per hour.

“Christmas is our busiest time of year and with so many parcels and letters coming through our doors, we always need talented people to join us. Whatever your circumstances, if you fancy earning a little extra cash, then this could be the perfect seasonal job for you.

“Working behind the scenes as one of our mail sorters, you’ll thrive in a fast-paced environment and be comfortable standing for long periods of time. It’s an important, hands-on role, and will see you process mail arriving from all over the country and help ensure every parcel, letter, and present safely reaches the right destination, at the right time.”

Under-18s cannot legally work night shifts.
