Post Offices shut during Christmas and New Year – here’s when to send off your post in time for the big day
With Christmas just 10 days away, those living away from their family might be planning on posting gifts to their loved ones. While some of us are organised and already have presents wrapped up under the tree, others tend to leave gift-buying until the last minute.
If you belong to the latter group, you might want to check that Royal Mail will be able to deliver your Christmas gifts and cards to arrive on time. There is so much to prepare for around the Christmas period, so it is easy to leave things until the last minute or forget important dates.
Ahead of Christmas, the Royal Mail advises: “Allow plenty of time for posting. Please post items and gifts for Christmas early, particularly for International deliveries.”
As well as posting presents to loved ones, you want to bear these dates in mind if you are shopping online for gifts. If you are planning to post Christmas presents and cards, you can pop the below dates in your calendar so you can’t miss the deadlines.
To arrive by Christmas, here are the Royal Mail latest posting dates:
- For 2nd Class and 2nd Class Signed For – Wednesday 17 December
- Royal Mail Tracked 48 – Friday 19 December
- First Class and First Class Signed For – Saturday 20 December
- Royal Mail Tracked 24 – Sunday 21 December
- For Special Delivery Guaranteed – Tuesday 23 December
Friday 19 December is the last posting date for Royal Mail Tracked Returns 48 to arrive back with the sender before Christmas.
You can find your nearest post office branch here.
There are no Royal Mail collections or deliveries on Christmas Day (25 December), Boxing Day (26 December) and New Years Day (1 January). Normal services will operate around these dates.
