Royal Mail continues Peugeot partnership with new electric fleet — Driven

Peugeot will continue its long-term partnership with Royal Mail by supplying 2,100 new electric vans.

Set to take to British roads this week, the new vans will be the first of Royal Mail’s electric vehicles to bear the King Charles III cypher, 18 months on from his coronation.

Peugeot has supplied vans to Royal Mail since 2009 and delivered its first set of electric vans to the company in 2014. The latest supply was announced in July and 1,100 of the E-Partner vans will be built at the UK’s first EV-only volume manufacturing plant in Ellesmere Port. Peugeot will also supply 1,000 fully electric E-EXPERT vans as part of the deal.

Reduced Emissions

The new supply is estimated to reduce total carbon dioxide emissions by around 6,000 tonnes per year when fully operational and contributes to the Royal Mail’s plans of achieving net zero by 2040. The vans will be charged on-site at Royal Mail’s delivery offices via its 100% renewable electricity supply. It has also introduced hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) – first made available in June 2023 – to fuel a number of its heavy goods vehicle fleet, at a 90% reduction compared to diesel.

Peugeot’s Electric Lineup

As for Peugeot, it currently has the most extensive EV lineup of any mainstream European brand, with 12 models in total, including three fully electric LCVs (Light Commercial Vehicles). Currently the best selling electric van brand so far this year, Peugeot has a 19.5% share of the electric LCV market and its new E-Partner was September’s best selling small electric van.

The new E-Partner has a fresh design, new technology and an increased electric range of up to 213 miles. It is powered by an electric motor that produces 136hp and 270Nm of torque, as well as a 50kWh battery.
