Royal Mail delays as Islanders go days without post

Royal Mail has sought to explain delays to deliveries on the Isle of Wight after residents reported having no post for days on end.

County Press readers got in touch to share their frustations over a lack of mail.

One resident said he had to resort to driving to the delivery office to pick up his post.

While there, he said he was told delays are down to staff having “no overtime”, meaning not all post is being delivered on time.

The second reason he said he was given was the considerable amount of roadworks holding drivers up.

When contacted by the County Press, Royal Mail said delays are typically down to ‘temporary factors, such as resourcing pressure’

A spokesperson said: “We understand how frustrating and concerning it can be when post does not arrive as expected.

“Where short-term delays do occur, they are typically limited to individual routes and can be caused by temporary factors such as resourcing pressure.

“When this happens, performance is reviewed locally and additional support is put in place to restore regular deliveries as quickly as possible.

“We continue to use overtime where it is needed to support deliveries and ensure customers receive their mail.”
