Royal Mail delays today affecting more than 90 postcodes including Bicester and Wantage

Royal Mail has apologised for delays to deliveries in more than 100 areas today (January 14).

The postal service has been hit by a number of issues causing delays to mail going out across the country, including at its Bicester office.

Staff shortages due to Covid-19 cases, “resourcing” and “other local factors” have caused the problems, the postal service said.

A spokesperson for Royal Mail said deliveries should now be “operating as normal” across many areas.

But they stressed that there may still be issues in a “small number of local offices”.

As well as disruption at the Bicester site, there have been problems reported in Thame and Wantage.

The spokesperson said: “Deliveries are operating as normal across most of the country today.

“We aim to deliver to all addresses we have mail for, six days a week.

“In a small number of local offices this may temporarily not be possible due to local issues such as Covid-related self-isolation, high levels of sick absence, resourcing, or other local factors.

“In those cases we will rotate deliveries to minimise the delay to individual customers.
