Royal Mail deliverer vows to have resident banned for rude note

A mail deliverer has vowed revenge after a resident left an “awful” note accusing him of faking an attempted delivery.

A postie in the UK is refusing to deliver to one resident again after they stuck a note to their door accusing him of pretending to try to deliver their parcels.

The handwritten message was plastered on the customer’s front door warning the mail deliverer to “not even think about” leaving an attempted delivery card – claiming he didn’t ring the doorbell when he attempted to deliver a parcel the previous Saturday, The Sun reports.

The postie snapped a photo of the note and shared it on social media, proclaiming he hopes the customer “enjoys collecting their mail from the office over Christmas”.

He even bragged about having a “naughty list”, adding: “There is no way to get off it after that.”

It’s been reported Royal Mail has backed their employee’s bold stance, with the postie claiming he had since been “told not to deliver to them” while the situation is investigated.

The note taped to the front door read: “Royal Mail. Don’t even think about putting a card through the door without ringing the doorbell and pretending that the delivery was attempted but no one was in – as happened on Saturday.

“We were in all day and we’ll be in today, Tuesday. RING THE BELL AND DELIVER THE PARCEL.”

Angered posties rallied behind their colleague, condemning the resident’s “cheeky and awful attitude” and “unnecessarily snarky” note – pointing out that no postie would want to hold onto someone’s mail longer than necessary.

Dozens backed his stance and suggested he issue P739s from here on – the Royal Mail’s code for their “sorry we missed each other” attempted delivery red note.

The mail deliverer has been completing that particular round for the past decade. He said it’s the second time he’s been spoken to that way and that he has no plans to deliver there again in the future.

In a series of comments responding to questions from colleagues, he said: “[I’m] not planning on delivering there in the future; it’s the second time I’ve been spoken to like this along with the van share guy.

“It wasn’t me [who left the attempted delivery note], probably a parcel driver, but it’s my delivery I’ve had for the last 10 years.”

Hundreds commented on the post, supporting the postie.

One wrote: “They couldn’t possibly have been in the garden/shower/had some loud noise going on when the bell was rung. That would mean it might be their fault, and we couldn’t have that could we.”

Another said: “Would have more than likely given my tuppence worth, redelivering that. Such an unnecessarily snarky note to leave.”

When users demanded an update on the row, the postie said: “[I’ve been] told not to deliver to them and ignore them for now until it gets looked into.”

Over the last two years, the postman has openly written about his “naughty list” repeatedly and even claimed he would stand in the “worst weather” to happily write a missed delivery note for those on it.

Royal Mail said staff work “extremely hard” to deliver mail to customers.

A Royal Mail spokesperson said: “Every single item of mail is important to us. Our post men and women work extremely hard to deliver mail to customers across the country, six days a week, in all weathers.

“Thankfully the vast majority of items are securely delivered to customers, but if we believe a customer is not at home, we will attempt to deliver the item to a neighbour and leave a card.

“If we can’t deliver to them, we’ll leave a card and take the item back to the Customer Service Point where customers can either collect it or arrange a redelivery. We would advise anyone who has delivery concerns can contact the Royal Mail customer service team.”
