Royal Mail delivers record General Election mail volumes

Following the UK’s General Election on July 4, Royal Mail has announced that is delivered record volumes of postal votes and candidate mail – growing these by 50% and 30% respectively compared to 2019.

Election-related mail delivered to voters over the course of the 2024 General Election campaign included 50.8 million poll cards, 7.26 million completed postal votes and 184 million pieces of candidate mail. All forms of election mail saw an increase in numbers compared to 2019, with the number of poll cards delivered increasing by 10%. All postal votes handed to Royal Mail on time were delivered as planned, according to the operator.

Ricky McAulay, Royal Mail’s UK operations director, said, “Our well laid plans and experienced elections team meant we were well set up to deliver for this general election. We are very proud of our whole team of postmen and women for stepping up to the plate and ensuring we play our role in delivering democracy.”

Royal Mail processed over 70,000 completed postal votes on polling day alone, with an army of more than 400 van drivers working to deliver them to local authority returning officers across the UK.
