Royal Mail delivery delays hit Scotland across 6 postcodes today — check yours

Royal Mail’s delivery disruptions have continued as 29 UK postcodes face problems today. Areas throughout Scotland have experienced postal delays.

The delivery company has attracted criticism over its late deliveries, with owner Daniel Kretinsky telling MPs: “Of course I am deeply sorry for any letters that arrive late.” Nevertheless, this week he rejected suggestions that Royal Mail’s record for late letter arrivals was worsening.

Addressing the Commons Business select committee, Mr Kretinsky said: “It is not perfect, but it is not catastrophic.” Last October, Royal Mail received a £21million fine for failing to meet First and Second Class delivery standards in its previous financial year.

Only 77% of First Class mail and 92.5% of Second Class reached its destination on time in its 2024-25 financial year. This falls below its respective 93% and 98.5% targets.

Customers are also facing a stamp price rise next month as First Class stamps will increase to £1.80 and Second Class to 91p. The change takes effect from April 6. In 2020, the cost of a First Class stamp stood at 76p, reports the Mirror.

Disruptions have continued throughout this week, and as of Friday, March 27, there are delays affecting 29 postcode areas. There are 14 Royal Mail delivery offices that have recorded delays in locations including Paisley, Bridge of Weir and Lochgelly.

Royal Mail has also confirmed disruption to its air and road network over the past 24 hours. A flight transporting mail from the East Midlands to Prestwick was forced to turn back to East Midlands Airport owing to adverse weather conditions.

The company stated: “As a result, some mail posted in parts of the Midlands, South West, North of England and Northern Ireland, for delivery in Central and Southern Scotland may arrive later than planned.”
