As most of the UK has been hit by weather warnings for snow and ice, a lot of disruption has been caused due to the conditions. Parts of the UK have been hit with amber weather warnings while others were issued with yellow alerts.

One of the services impacted by the poor weather has been mailing services. Royal Mail has shared an update following the weather over the weekend. They have warned of “service disruption” due to severe weather across parts of the UK.

In a statement, Royal Mail said: “Following the Met Office issued Amber weather warning for snow and ice in parts of the UK on Saturday, 4 January and Sunday, 5 January 2025, the severe weather impacted our services in some parts of the UK on Monday, 6, and Tuesday, 7 January 2025. Some of our services are disrupted today, Wednesday, 8 January 2025, due to severe icy conditions affecting parts of the UK.”

The mailing service added “The safety of our people is our priority, and we will recover our services where it is safe to do so.” Advice for what to do if your deliveries have been impacted are published on the Royal Mail website.

They state: “When there is severe weather – such as significant snowfall, icy conditions or localised flooding – your street or some of the roads on route to your address may become too dangerous to access. We will always make every attempt to get your mail to you daily, if it’s safe for us to do so.”

Royal Mail said postmen and women may start their rounds but may be unable to finish them because of issues along the way. The distribution service undertake risk assessments throughout the day to ensure they can get to as many addresses as possible.

Merseyside is bracing for a sixth day of weather warnings as a snow and ice alert has been issued for the region tomorrow (Thursday). The new warning is for 3am tomorrow and will last for nine hours until 12pm tomorrow afternoon, January 9. The Met Office said snow and icy patches may lead to some travel disruption.

Looking ahead to tomorrow’s forecast during the hours the weather warning is in place, the weather agency said: “Showers, mostly of rain and sleet at low levels and near coasts, but of snow inland and over higher ground, are expected to affect the area later Wednesday night and on Thursday morning.

“With many surfaces below freezing, this will lead to some icy stretches on untreated surfaces, while a few cm of fresh snow could affect some areas, mainly places above about 100 metres.”
