West Worcestershire MP Dame Harriett Baldwin visited the Royal Mail sorting office in Pershore to thank staff and hear about the daily challenges they face, including the risk of dog attacks.
More than 2,000 people were injured by dogs last year while delivering post and parcels.
The Royal Mail is running a campaign to encourage dog owners to install extra measures in their homes to make sure post can be delivered safely.
Dame Harriett said: “I took the time to visit the sorting office in Pershore to say thanks to the team for the amazing jobs they do getting mail and parcels to local homes and businesses.
“As someone who regularly visits homes to talk to voters and deliver leaflets, I know just how difficult their job is and the risks that they face if there is a dangerous dog on the premises.
“There are simple measures that can be put in place to help keep posties safe, including putting a letter cage or an external delivery box.”
During her visit, Dame Harriett also discussed wider issues affecting postal services.
She said: “I also took the time to listen to the Royal Mail’s update on its recent sale and how the changes to second-class mail deliveries will impact local people.
“But most of all I wanted to say thanks to the staff who go out in all weathers to make sure we get our mail and packages in a timely manner.”
