Royal Mail, DPD, Hermes Scam Warning As Malicious Text Messages Sent

Royal Mail, DPD and Hermes customers are being warned of malicious scam messages that continue to be sent out.

Unsuspecting customers are being targeted for valuable information including bank details.

A community project put out a warning after it found that scam texts are continuing to be sent out.

On Twitter, SCAMWhere? received a redelivery scam and told customers to be aware of them.

They said: “Still receiving messages like this? SCAMWhere? received this redelivery scam, continue to be aware and forward to 7726 or simply delete the message.

“”These scams are intended to trick you into giving away valuable info. Look out for similar Hermes and DPD redelivery scams”

According to Royal Mail, the texts will state “there is a package that needs to be rescheduled”.

This message asks customers to click on a “bit.ly” link. The link takes customers to a scam site that requests payment.

Royal Mail warns: “Do not click on any links or enter any details.”

Another variant of the text message scam is one that states “an item is waiting to be collected” by the customer.

This will include a link. Once again Royal Mail says customers should not click the link.

Others may state that a delivery fee is required in order for a package to be delivered.

Consumer champion Which? also recently issued a warning about DPD scam texts.

They said: “If you’ve received a suspicious text, don’t follow any links. We followed the link only to learn about the scam and to report it.

“Text messages are frequently used by scammers because sending them doesn’t rely on an internet connection, like a WhatsApp message does, and they don’t have to pass a spam filter like an email.

“Texts are also less likely to be missed, and many legitimate organisations use text message to contact customers.”
