Royal Mail has indicated that it could break up the postal service and courier company if it is unable to move ahead with changes at its UK business, which lost about £1 million a day between April and June.
The company, which is facing strike action from workers over pay and change, said that it would consider all options to protect the prospects of the group “in the event that significant operational change within Royal Mail in the UK is not achieved”.
It also announced in a trading update before its annual general meeting that it was planning to change the name of its holding company from Royal Mail to International Distributions Services.
