With Christmas fast approaching, getting your cards and gifts packaged and sent out on time can be a troubling and time consuming task.

Sending presents over the festive period can be an expensive endeavour too, however, this has now been made easier by a service that lets you send and return your items straight from your doorstep. The Royal Mail system also allows you to do so for free, with the caveat that you get your postage online or on their app.

When you buy postage online or through the Royal Mail app it works out cheaper than buying it in person over the counter and the mailing giant will also collect the items from you for free, leaving your Christmas budget looking healthier. It even pledges to bring a label so you don’t have to endure the pesky process of trying to print one out.

Royal Mail says using this service is relatively simple and you start by buying your postage and booking your collection online. Once you have bought postage already, or have a pre-paid return, you can then follow these six simple steps:

  1. Buy postage with Click & Drop either online or on the Royal Mail App, or you use a pre-paid label.
  2. Select the items you wish to have collected and input the recipient and sender details
  3. Once the items are in your basket, select the “arrange collection” option
  4. Then add the collection details, select the day of your collection and proceed to checkout as normal
  5. Either print your label and affix to your parcel, or choose our “Bring my label” service and a label will be brought to you
  6. Your postie will then call round to collect your parcel

There is also no limit on the amount of parcels you can send and you can leave your parcel in a nominated safe space for collection if you’re not going to be home. However, the service also works if you’re regularly selling things online.

Royal Mail says you can put all your orders from your online stores into your Click & Drop account and get your packages out the door in good time.
