Royal Mail introduce parcel postboxes to SO area

RESIDENTS of Southampton will now be able to post parcels in the same way that letters are posted.

It comes after the introduction of 39 of the UK’s first ever parcel postboxes across the South Coast area, including the SO postcode area.

Following a successful trial of the boxes last year, the launch of parcels postboxes will see Royal Mail convert approximately 1,400 existing meter boxes to accept parcels posted in the same way that letters are today.

They will accept packages through a larger posting hole with wider aperture.

The major change means that small businesses and marketplace sellers can post pre-paid parcels through securely designed parcel postboxes.

Before using the postboxes, parcels must be pre-paid through Click & Drop, the delivery company’s online labelling system for customers and online sellers.

Customers will also be able to post return parcels at any time, seven days a week, as long as they include a Royal Mail barcode.

Mark Street, Head of Campaigns at Royal Mail said: “The introduction of parcel postboxes in the South Coast area means that customers can now send parcels with pre-paid postage and their returns in the same way that they do letters. The new parcel postboxes provide added flexibility to online sellers who might be running a business in their spare time and not keeping regular office hours.”

Other locations where the parcel postboxes will be unveiled include BH, DT, PO, and SP.
