Royal Mail is advertising for temporary Christmas staff – and there are jobs available in Manchester

With the Christmas rush fast approaching there’s plenty of companies hiring new staff ahead of the festive period.

Among those is Royal Mail who are looking for staff to help with demand over the next few months.

Senior Mail Sorter

Working from the Royal Mail’s Manchester Mail Centre, you will help deal with the increased flow of parcels and letters flying through the warehouse.

The Royal Mail itself has admitted that they “always need a few thousand extra hands” over the Christmas period.

As a Mail Sorter, you’ll be responsible for unloading mail and parcels from the vans and moving them through the warehouse while ensuring they arrive at their destination safely.

In fact, during a single shift, you could sort over a million items with the team.

One of the key things Royal Mail is looking for in its new Mail Sorter is flexibility, commitment and enthusiasm.

This is not an easy job, however, you’ll be working in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.

A bit of body strength wouldn’t hurt either as you’ll be pushing trolleys weighing up to 250kgs plus lifting and moving mail bags weighing up to 11kg.

Another attractive aspect of the job is that you don’t need prior experience working with Royal Mail, although some warehouse experience would be a bonus.

  • Salary : £11.40 (days) to £13.70 (nights)

A range of shifts are available so it shouldn’t be too hard to find one that suits you, typical shift patterns include:

  • Lates : Monday to Friday, either 14:00 – 22:00 or 17:00 – 22:00 – some shifts also have Saturday attendances 14:00 – 22:00
  • Nights : Monday to Friday, 22:00 – 06:00 – some shifts have additional Saturday or Sunday attendances with the same hours
  • Weekends : Saturday & Sunday, 19:00 – 06:00
