Royal Mail is hiring Christmas workers near Surrey paying up to £17 an hour

Christmas is just around the corner, and those who are looking to make an extra bit of cash could apply for a seasonal role with Royal Mail. The courier company is looking for individuals to bring some extra “festive cheer” over what will be it’s busiest time period.

The roles Royal Mail are looking to fill are seasonal mail sorters, at the company’s depots. There are three depots on the border of Surrey, one at Crawley’s Gatwick mail centre, Hownslow and Croydon.

Workers will be unloading mail and parcels from vans, moving them into the sorting centre and then helping to organise each item so that it can be delivered safetly to it’s correct location, in time for Christmas.

Each sorting centre has a variety of shift patterns available, which pay at different rates depending on the location. The Croydon mail centre has late shifts from 2pm to 10pm, up for grabs, paying up to £15.92 per hour.

Crawley’s Gatwick sorting centre has late shifts from 2pm to 10pm, paying £13.63 per hour and night shifts from 10pm to 6am, paying £14.81 per hour. Early shifts start at 6am, and finish at 2pm, paying £12.29 per hour.

Those looking to apply at Hounslow could pick up late shifts, from 2pm to 10pm which pay £15.92 per hour. Or a night shift from 10pm to 6am, paying £17.10 per hour.

Applicants must be able to push a trolley with up to 250kg on, and move or lift bags weighing 11kg. They must also be able to stand comfortably for long periods of time.

If you are thinking of applying, only apply to one location, as multiple applications will be removed. Upon application, it is recommended to provide Royal Mail with a list of preferred working dates and times.

Royal Mail has it’s own online form for those looking to apply, and they can simply fill out the form and answer all the relevant questions. Applicant’s don’t need prior experience working in a sorting centre, however it is desired.
