Royal Mail is hiring postmen and women across Birmingham and West Midlands for Christmas

The Royal Mail is hiring posties across Birmingham, the Black Country and throughout the West Midlands – just in time for Christmas.

The service is hiring a number of workers across the region in time for December 25, as the country prepares for a Covid-threatened festive season.

If you fancy a seasonal job, you can find work with the Royal Mail, with an array of vacancies on offer for you to apply for in the hope of some extra cash.

The Royal Mail says: “There are always occasions where we need extra hands to help us meet demand. Whether you’re looking for flexible work throughout the year, or for some seasonal work at Christmas, we’d love to hear from you.”

It adds: “Here at Royal Mail, Christmas is our busiest time of year. With so many parcels and letters coming through our warehouse doors, it’s no surprise that we need a few thousand extra helping hands to get everything where it needs to go. That’s why, every year, we hire temporary Mail Centre workers from all different walks of life to help us deliver Christmas across the UK.”

Post person, Chelmsley Wood

The part-time role is 24 hours a week, between the hours of 1pm and 7pm from Wednesday to Saturday.

The successful candidate needs to be flexible and will be covering periods of leave for a fixed number of routes.

Responsibilities will include sorting the mail for a route, joining a colleague for a round and spending between four and six hours outside delivering mail.

The Royal Mail said: “From scorching summer days to the depths of winter, our postal workers play a vital role, delivering the mail. It’s a physically demanding job – but it’s one the nation relies on.”

Post person, Warwick

Here, you will:

Work part-time hours between the hours of 09:00 and 15:00

Cover periods of leave for a fixed number of routes (so you’ll need to be a bit flexible)

Sort the mail for your route

Check your vehicle and join a colleague for your round

Spend between four and six hours delivering mail outdoors

Heavy Vehicle Technician, Coventry

The Royal Mail says: “With a Fleet of over 49,000 vehicles, meeting the challenge of maintaining our vehicles is a real team effort. With the opportunity to work on a range of makes and models of vehicle, there couldn’t be a better time to join Royal Mail as a Vehicle Technician.

“We are looking for professional vehicle technicians to perform a full range of inspections, diagnosis, maintenance and repair procedures on a range of vehicle, trailers and mechanical equipment operated by Royal Mail Group. As a team player who takes real pride in their work, you’ll be prepared to go the extra mile to ensure the job is done effectively.

“Successful candidates must be fully qualified to at least advanced level (IMI Level 3 in Heavy vehicle maintenance & repair or an equivalent qualification) and have proven (via CV) experience of working on a wide range of vehicles for example LGV.

“We also require you to have a full driving licence (LGV preferred with trailer experience).

Christmas Casual

Although we’re just saying goodbye to summer, the Royal Mail is preparing for its busiest time of the year – Christmas.

The company is looking for mail processors across the country.

It said: “Royal Mail is now recruiting Christmas Casual Mail Processors.

“If you are 18 years of age or over, are punctual, reliable and have a flexible approach, you are the type of person we’re looking for.”

The pay is slightly higher than that of a post person, but the shifts are lates, nights and some weekend shifts.

Working in a team to hit deadlines, the role includes unloading wheeled containers, scanning and identifying parcels and moving mail.
