While September is definitely way too early to be talking about Christmas, if you like a bit of extra cash over the festive season, the Royal Mail might be your answer.
The build up to Christmas is one of the post service’s busiest times, and Royal Mail are offering pretty good pay for the work at £9.50 per hour for day shifts and £11.21 an hour for night shifts.
Typical shifts are eight hours long and either start at 2pm or 10pm.
The jobs is mainly helping to unload mail and parcels from the red vans, moving them around the warehouses and the sorting them so they arrive at their destinations safely. Royal Mail say a single team can sort up to a million items in a single shift.
What are they looking for?
Royal Mail say the kind of people they are looking for should:
- Enjoy working to tight deadlines in a fast paced environment
- Be good at being proactive and detailed focused
- Be flexible and adaptable to work on various tasks during a shift
- And find pushing trolleys (up to 250kgs) and standing for long periods comfortable
Do I need experience to apply?
Royal Mail say you don’t need any previous experience to do the job. In fact they “love meeting new people”.
They also add that if you do have previous experience they’d love to hear from you too.
How to apply

On your application, you will be asked which shift you would prefer. For this role you will have to pick from Lates or Nights so the application can be processed, although which shifts you take will be flexible.
Royal Mail say that preferred shifts are offered on a first come first serve basis, and shift times may change depending of the amount of mail going through the centres.
If your application is successful, you will be invited to attend a registration events where you will be able to discuss your shift preference. These events get fully booked quickly, so make sure you book early to avoid disappointment.
