It’s probably still too early to be thinking about Christmas – but for those looking for a new job, it’s actually the perfect time.
Royal Mail is currently recruiting posties, drivers and Christmas casual workers as it prepares for the busiest time of the year.
A number of jobs are currently available in Kent.

Behind the scenes at Kent’s Royal Mail sorting office at Christmas
Postmen and postwomen
There are two opportunities in Kent being advertised for postmen and women at Royal Mail – both of those are permanent, part-time roles.
The first is a five-day per week job based at the Medway Valley delivery office with 28 hours of work each week.
Hours will range between the hours of 7am and 7pm, with successful candidates working five days per week between Monday and Saturday.
Interviews for this role will be held on Friday, September 27.
The other job is based at the Faversham delivery office and consists working one day per-week on a Saturday for just over seven hours from 7am until 2.18pm.
Interviews for the one-day a week role will be held on the week commencing Monday, September 30.
Wages
Both these available roles pay an hourly rate of £10.46 for those over 18 and £8.13 per-hour for employees aged 17.
What are they looking for?
According to the advert, the Royal Mail is looking for candidates who are upbeat, self-motivated, organised and flexible.
Due to the nature of the work, applicants should also enjoy spending time outdoors and have a good level of fitness – the job involves up to six hours of walking each day.
Collections and network driver
This job is based at the Canterbury delivery office and is for 21 hours per-week across a five-day period between Monday and Saturday.
Hours on Monday to Friday will be between 2.45pm and 7pm, while on a Saturday it’s from 10.30am until 2.45pm.
It involves delivering mail and parcels to houses and businesses within a set area.
The description of the role says: “Much of your day will be spent driving and collecting mail from post-boxes, post offices and business customers at prearranged times.
“You’ll be given a hand-held computer device to capture customer signatures for deliveries.
“You will take the mail to processing centres where it will be prepared for the next stage in its journey; you will unload and sort your mailbags, ensuring they get to the right operating lines, supporting the Mail Centre to process efficiently.”
Wages
The hourly rate is £10.46 for those aged over 18 and £8.36 for those who are 17.
Wages increase incrementally at six months and 12 months if performance is satisfactory.
It rises to £11.04 per hour after six months and £11.62 after one year.
Christmas casual staff
Christmas workers will be able to choose from a few regular shift patterns.
Early shifts run from 6am to 2pm, lates from 2pm to 10pm and overnight work is from 10pm to 6am.
The role is based at Medway Mail Centre. There is also vacancies at the Medway Sorting Centre.
Wages
Those who opt to work day and evening shifts will be paid £10.50 per-hour while overnight workers will receive £12.46 an hour.
