Royal Mail issue scam warning to customers

The public is being warned about a scam which pretends to be Royal Mail asking for payment and personal details.

Royal Mail has been urging customers not to fall victim to these scams.

Cumbria Trading Standards said: “Royal Mail is warning people about various scams currently doing the rounds.

“The latest scam involves a fake text message asking customers to settle a fee and provide their personal details.”

One recipient posted the phishing message on Twitter, which said: “Your parcel is waiting for delivery, Please confirm the settlement of 2.99 (GBP) on the following link”.

The link leads to a web page which references a package number and asks for a full name and a date of birth.

Royal Mail has advised people not to click on the link.

You can report any attempt to steal your money or personal information to Action Fraud by calling 0300 123 2040, or report it online.
