Royal Mail has issued warnings to residents in specific postcode areas that their delivieries will arrive later than expected. The postal service strives to deliver mail to homes throughout the UK six days a week.
There have been numerous disruptions in recent weeks, with Royal Mail alerting over 100 postcodes to delays earlier this week. As of Monday, February 16, 38 delivery offices reported hold-ups affecting 105 postcodes nationwide. Royal Mail said: “We aim to deliver to all addresses we have mail for, six days a week.
“In a small number of local offices, this may temporarily not be possible due to local issues such as high levels of sick absence, resourcing, or other local factors. In those cases, we will rotate deliveries to minimise the delay to individual customers.
“We also provide targeted support to those offices to address their challenges and restore our service to the high standard our customers would normally receive”, reports the Mirror. “We’re sorry for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.”
In its most recent update, Royal Mail revealed that mail movement through its network hasn’t proceeded as scheduled. The firm operates an aviation and road network to transport letters and parcels between its distribution centres.
As of Wednesday, February 18, its aviation network service operated on schedule. However, a disruption has occurred on the road network, affecting four postcode areas.
Royal Mail said: “Last night a vehicle travelling from our North West Hub to the Midlands Hub arrived late, meaning a subsequent late departure to London Central Mail Centre.
The impacted postcodes span large swathes of the capital. EC encompasses the City of London, including sections of Islington, Camden, Hackney and Tower Hamlets.
N postcodes cover 25 districts across North London, including areas such as Finchley, Highbury, Highgate and Tottenham, whilst W1 includes locations like the West End, Mayfair, Marylebone and Soho.
Additional central London neighbourhoods fall under the WC postcode, which takes in Covent Garden, Holborn, Bloomsbury and St Pancras.
