Royal Mail issues stamp warning as customers could be hit with extra charges

Royal Mail has issued a warning to its customers over extra charges due to a stamp change.

The postal company introduced barcoded stamp which will replace traditional ones, which will see the latter soon to be no longer valid. Originally, Royal Mail gave a deadline of January 31 for customers to either use their stamps or swap them for the barcoded ones.

This is part of a “Stamp Swap Out” form, but they have since said there will be an additional six-month “grace period.” This extra time will mean people can use or swap any old-style stamps they still own until Monday, July 31.

The ECHO reports that people have been sent leaflets in the post which reminds them of the new deadline. The leaflets state: “Time is running out to use your old non-barcoded stamps.

“You have until July 31 to use your non-barcoded ‘regular’ stamps.

“They will not be accepted for postage after this date and you could be subject to surcharge. Alternatively, you can swap them for new barcoded stamps.”
