We live in one of the most beautiful parts of the UK. So getting out and about in our countryside, whilst also enjoying plenty of exercise, working for the Royal Mail is a relatively attractive proposition.

The popularity and convenience of online shopping isn’t fading – our posties are being kept busier than ever. There are also some decent salaries on offer for certain roles – with a vehicle technician earning up to £45,000 per year. The vacancies have varying entry requirements with jobs on offer from Postperson to Collections and Delivery Manager.

All roles are advertised on the Royal Mail website where you can see a bigger breakdown of what they involve and see roles all around the country. Below we summarise what’s on offer now.

Postie

These roles are the most obvious at Royal Mail and involve delivering letters and parcels to people’s houses. It’s billed as a physical job as you’re on your feet lugging around post but that will save on the gym membership.

As the role is customer-facing, they are looking for someone with an upbeat attitude and a great temperament. You also have to be motivated to get outside come rain or shine as the post has to be delivered.

The average salary can depend on how many hours you’re contracted to do. For Cornwall, current postperson jobs are paid between £11.59 and £12.29 per hour but you are paid 1.25 times the normal rate if you work overtime. Many of the roles include driving elements and want someone who has a full UK manual driving licence with no more than 6 penalty points.

There are currently postperson vacancies in Truro, Camborne, St Ives, St Austell, Launceston and plenty more across the border in Devon. These jobs are advertised on the Royal Mail website and you can apply there too.
