Royal Mail jobs up for grabs in the North East including seasonal roles

There are a range of permanent and temporary vacancies being advertised across the region

Royal Mail announced plans to recruit thousands of temporary workers to help over the busy Christmas period. With around 20,000 workers to be recruited, bosses hope it will help cope with the surge in demand around Black Friday, Cyber Monday and Christmas.

There will be 12,000 mail centre sorting roles available in England, 2,000 in Scotland, 600 in Wales and 400 in Northern Ireland, the company said. It added that there will also be 3,000 delivery and collection roles across the UK, as well as 2,000 temporary HGV and MGV driver’s roles.

In the North East, vacancies for Seasonal Mail sorters are currently being advertised along with a number of other permanent roles based across the region.

Here are some of the vacancies up for grabs:

Seasonal Mail Sorters

Location: Tyneside Mail Centre or Tyneside Collections, Gateshead

Role: You will make sure every card, gift and parcel reaches its destination on time. You will unload letters and parcels from vans, move mail through centres and help sort letters and parcels by postcode.

There are a variety of shifts including 2pm – 10pm (£14.48 p/h); 10pm – 6am (£15.74p/h) and various weekend shifts.

Postperson with driving

Location: Various

Role: Royal Mail is looking for upbeat, independent and self-motivated people to deliver to your community. Applicants should be organised, punctual and ready to deliver great customer service.

You should think of yourself as a people-person and friendly face in the community. You should be happy walking for long periods and working outside in any weather.

Applicants should have a strong sense of community and take pride in what they do. You must have a full UK manual driving licence and no more than six penalty points.

Parcelforce Collection and Delivery Only

Location: Various

Role: You will work eight hours per week on a Saturday only, with an opportunity for overtime. You will be part of a dedicated team and will be responsible for organising parcels and planning your route.

You will carry out safety checks and collect and deliver parcels to households and businesses. Candidates must have a full manual UK driving licence with no more than six penalty points.

You should have the ability to lift and carry parcels up to 30kg. You should be friendly, reliable and customer-focused, while being comfortable working independently and happy to support your team.

Collections Driver

Location: Tyneside Delivery Office

Role: The successful applicant would work 20 hours per week over five days between 1pm and 7pm. The role would include checking post-boxes, popping into post offices and visiting business customers at a prearranged time.

You would collect the mail and drop it off at a processing centre. You would be responsible for sorting out your mailbags and making sure each piece gets to the right place at the right time.

You would get a guaranteed hourly rate of £12.54 p/h and paid overtime.
