Royal Mail make changes to post in Chippenham after delays

Royal Mail has pledged to introduce plans to improve their service in the Chippenham area after Cepen Park residents were left frustrated at a lack of deliveries.

One resident, who wished to remain anonymous, told this paper he had not received post for two weeks.

He said: “Myself and many others in the Cepen Park area have had very poor postal delivery from at least the start of September.

“I personally have not had any post for two weeks now, that’s not anywhere near their target.

“For me, this is totally unacceptable, delays of two weeks on mail with important appointments and documents being sat and left unattended, the result of these not being delivered is nothing short of irresponsible.”

Other residents have taken to Facebook to voice their concerns at undelivered post throughout September.

One local said: “Seem to get post once every seven to ten days at the moment. I went to the delivery office and collected it in the end, as we were waiting for some important documents.”

Another added: “It’s a joke. I receive post once a week at the moment.”

The problems have been so severe MP Michelle Donelan wrote to Royal Mail director David Gold for answers earlier this month.

Staff at the Bumpers Farm sorting office reportedly told disgruntled residents they were short staffed, and that recruiting was underway to help tackle the delays to deliveries.

Royal Mail did not confirm if the delays were due to short staffing and did not provide insight into what their plans to improve the situation were.

But the postal service emphasised they are committed to improving their deliveries in the area.

A spokesperson said: “We are sorry to residents in the area who have experienced delays. Improving our level of service is our top priority and we are committed to restoring service levels to where our customers expect them to be.

“While on occasion there are delays to the service locally, mail continues to be delivered daily throughout Chippenham. When a person has mail and does not receive it on the day they expect, we will always try to prioritise them the next day.

“We have plans in place to continue driving our service forward and encourage anyone who has concerns about their mail to please get in touch.”
