Christmas is 100 days away but it’s never too early to bag that seasonal job to help you afford presents for all your loved ones.
The run-up to the festive season has well and truly begun, with all eyes on Christmas as children across Birmingham pen their lists and the shops dust off the tinsel.
With December 25 fast approaching, you’d be forgiven for worrying how you are going to make ends meet.
Luckily, though, the Royal Mail is putting out the call in a bid to get some extra help.
Royal Mail is currently recruiting posties – and, if you live right here in Birmingham, one of them could be you.
The company is launching its annual recruitment drive for thousands of seasonal workers to help sort the Christmas post and the increasing amount of online shopping parcels.
Thousands of jobs are available across the UK in Royal Mail and Parcelforce Worldwide – mainly to help sort Christmas parcels, cards and letters.
Royal Mail’s postie jobs are permanent, part-time roles, offering five-day working weeks with 20 hours of employment.
Applicants must be available between 9.30am and 1.30pm.
The other opportunity is for just six hours per week on Saturday only.
Those interested must be available between 8am and 2pm each week.
Available roles pay an hourly rate of £8.13 for employees aged 17 and £10.46 per hour for those over 18.
According to the advert, the Royal Mail is looking for candidates who are upbeat, self-motivated, organised and flexible.
Due to the nature of the work, applicants should also enjoy spending time outdoors and have a good level of fitness – the job involves roughly six hours of walking each day.
Successful applicants will get full uniform, a Cycle2work scheme, contributory pension scheme and holiday entitlement starts at 22.5 days on entry rising with length of service (pro-rata).
You’ll also receive “excellent career development opportunities” and a childcare voucher scheme and an excellent maternity/paternity leave policy
Many varied corporate discounts including high street vouchers, travel and attraction discounts for family days out, fashion, gifts and health and wellbeing to include discount on beauty products and gym membership.
Christmas workers, meanwhile, will be able to choose from a few regular shift patterns.
Early shifts run from 6am to 2pm, late from 2pm to 10pm and overnight from 10pm to 6am.
Those who opt to work day and evening shifts will be paid £8.21 per hour while overnight workers will receive £8.81 per hour.
Applicants must enjoy working to tight deadlines in a fast paced environment, be proactive and detailed focused, be flexible and adaptable to work on various tasks during a shift and be able to push trolleys (up to 250kgs) and stand for long periods of times.
Successful candidates will be assisting with unloading and loading mail and parcels from vans, moving them around warehouses and sorting them.
