Our local post box is the same. I’ve been told that even the one at the railway station is wrapped up, but I haven’t been over on my mobility scooter to see.
I do know that the excellent women behind the counter at our P.O. were not told about it until the black wrapping arrived, and that they will lose business because of the new system.
Since Covid many people have enjoyed the efforts of local craftspeople displayed on top of the post box. Sorry, folks, the new top will be a solar panel.
Not wanting to queue on two sticks to post my letters at the counter the other day, I asked two polite young schoolboys to do it for me, which one kindly did. If the Royal Mail doesn’t get its skates on, Christmas posting will be a nightmare, although the outrageous rise in postage costs should cut down on cards – too bad, charities.
Hundreds of thousands of these monstrosities are being rolled out across the country. To what public benefit? Folks who can’t be bothered to go to a counter and the billionaires mentioned by Mr. Smith.

Hurray for the vegan market
Sometimes there is good news (so the saying `no news is good news doesn’t always apply) and, as a follower of a plant-based diet I was delighted to learn there will be a Vegan Christmas Market. This is good news for animals and the climate too.

Let there be light
It will soon be here, the most looked-forward-to day of the winter ‘yule’ or the Druid name ‘Alban Arthan’ (light of winter ) – Sunday 21 December at 3:03pm, the date and time of the winter solstice, the darkest day of the year. After the 21st, the days will slowly get lighter and heading back to spring and summer. Roll on the lighter nights and longer days.

A rubbish system
Trying to purchase a new green bin sticker on December 9, I signed in to the council email and put in my email address and password from last time.
Oh what a surprise, my password was wrong – (no!). So I tried as a new customer, put in my email address and changed my password slightly.
The reply was ‘This email address already exists for someone else’. Yes, me! All was not lost. I would receive an email within 24 hours with a secure code to make contact. Oh what a surprise. After nearly two days, no sign of a secure code. I will try and get to talk to a real person and source me a sticker.
