Royal Mail post service on Christmas Eve, Boxing Day and New Year explained

As we begin counting down the days until Christmas, some of us may be anxiously wanting to make sure that any cards, parcels and gifts arrive in time.

The festive period is usually the busiest time of year for every retailer, but it is exceptionally busy for the Royal Mail who experience cards and presents that need to be sent in time by the millions.

Due to high volumes of online shopping and gifts being sent in the mail this year, the postal service has urged everyone to make sure they don’t leave things until the very last minute.

While there are still a few weeks left until Christmas, getting everything posted sooner rather than later will make sure that you miss out on any festive disappointment this year.

So, before time runs out, here’s everything you need to know about Royal Mail postage over Christmas Eve, Boxing Day and New Year.

Do Royal Mail Deliver on Christmas Eve?

The Royal Mail has announced its last postal dates for 2021.

Royal Mail will still be operating deliveries and collections as normal on Christmas Eve this year.

This does include international deliveries, with the postal service announcing the last postal dates for international countries online.

Last year the postal service announced changes to their special deliveries due to the chaos of lockdown, but they have made further updates this year.

While normal service will resume this year, Royal Mail do advise all customers to “Beat the festive rush and get all your letters and parcels in the post on time.”

When is the next postal dates after Christmas?

Royal Mail will resume their normal service on Wednesday 29 this year, due to Boxing Day falling on a Sunday this year and the postal service does not deliver on the weekends.

This year both Monday 27 December and Tuesday 18 December are seen as Christmas day and Boxing day bank holidays respectively.

This means that there will be no Royal Mail deliveries for four days this year starting from Christmas day; These dates are, Saturday 25 December, Sunday 26 December, Monday 27 December and Tuesday 28 December.

What about Royal Mail Service on New Year?

The Royal Mail delivering as normal on New Year’s Eve this year which falls on Friday 31 December.

Currently, Royal Mail will be operating normal deliveries and New Year’s Eve collections on Friday 31 December.

The postal service has said that they will be currently operating a normal service this New Year on Saturday 1 January, but it is subject to change.

The postal service has sent a request to Ofcom for no deliveries and collections on New Year, but there has been no official announcement.
