Louisa Davies said: “I have been having terrible problems with Royal Mail in general all over the country.
“I’m posting second class large letter and they are taking two to three weeks to get delivered.
“I’ve got people who have not received packages I sent January 2!” She said.
A range of other comments have flooded in on community groups adding, “It’s taken 8 days for some of my post to arrive” and “I haven’t had any for ages. I know there’s problems but I’m waiting for post and an update from them would be nice.”
The Mayor of Tenbury, Robert Perrin, lives in Rochford and has also been experiencing postage issues. “On a personal level I only get one lot of post a week and the rest I don’t get any at all.” He said.
“Speaking to people in Tenbury it’s as though we don’t have any routines.
“It has effect on loads of people and it is a problem,” the mayor said.
He added that it would be a “piece of mind” for residents if there was a solution as they could then stop worrying.
Coun Perrin also added he received his birthday card three days late despite his daughter posting first class in “plenty of time.”
Dame Harriett Baldwin, West Worcestershire MP has urged Royal Mail to make significant improvements to local services as the missing mail misery continues into the new year.
The MP wrote to Royal Mail asking it to review and improve its local delivery services after a long succession of complaints from constituents about missing mail.
Prior to Christmas, Dame Harriett was briefed that delays to local deliveries were the result of staff sickness, higher demand for parcel deliveries and the increase of mail in the run up to the festive period.
Dame Harriett said: “I remain fully supportive of the local posties who try their hardest to get mail to our doors, but I keep hearing reports that the management is putting staff under pressure to prioritise parcels over mail.
“The company has an obligation to deliver first class mail on time and it would be terrible if there’s now an informal policy to hold back mail to help the company to catch up on backlogs.
“Many constituents are extremely concerned about this situation and as someone who sends out hundreds of letters each week, we all want to feel confident that when we pop a letter in the letterbox, it won’t sit languishing in a sorting office for days for no good reason.
“I was assured that this issue would fix itself after Christmas but it must now be time for senior management to intervene and ensure that the company fulfills its postal obligations.”
Royal Mail was contacted for comment.
