A POSTIE was sacked after climbing a ladder to rescue a pigeon at his sorting office.
Chris Fisher, 34, clambered up to the eaves in an attempt to bring the trapped bird to safety.
But two days later his boss told him he was being suspended for using equipment without training and allegedly disturbing a nest.
Chris said: “My boss had known about the nest for weeks and done nothing about it.
“I had previously freed the pigeon before leaving around 6pm.
“I’d managed to get the pigeon down before just by calling it but it appeared to be sleeping.
“So I used the ladder to help it on its way.
“I’m very hands-on and have been using ladders since I could walk to get jobs done so I thought nothing of it.
“This feels like health and safety gone mad.
Chris received a letter saying he was being dismissed without notice on Tuesday.
Royal Mail found two counts of gross misconduct were proven following two meetings with the dad of two.
Chris, who had worked at the delivery office in Arbroath, Angus, since November 2021, plans to appeal.
He said: “I can’t understand Royal Mail’s completely over-the-top response.”
Royal Mail said the case was ongoing and it would be inappropriate to comment.
