Royal mail posties and 11 other jobs you can apply for now in Wales

As coronavirus leaves its mark on the economy, more and more people are seeking full and part-time work across Wales.

We’ve scoured popular job sites for some of the best opportunities available now.

Vacancies range from neighbourhood posties to local council staff and customer service representatives.

A number of the opportunities don’t require any previous experience – but still offer compensation over the minimum wage. Here are 12 jobs you can apply for now:

1. Postie with driver’s licence for Royal Mail Group

Royal Mail Group is looking for a part-time post person with a driver’s licence to work for its Cardiff North office.

The job entails working 25 hours across five days each week and pays over £10 per hour for successful candidates over 18 years of age, increasing to over £11 after 6 months of service.

Applicants must also have a full UK manual driving licence, with no more than six penalty points.

2. Trainee Train Driver for Transport for Wales

Transport for Wales is hiring trainee train drivers

Transport for Wales is looking recruiting for a trainee train driver living within an hour of Cardiff.

No previous experience is needed for the role as successful candidates will be put through a comprehensive training programme.

According to the advert, you must be over 21 years of age and live within one hour of Cardiff Central.

The salary starts at £28,488, and increases “significantly” after a qualification is received.

3. Admissions Officer for Cardiff Council

Cardiff Council is hiring a full-time admissions officer to work on a team in its Education Directorate.

The job entails assisting with the arrangements for the admission of children and young people across the 3-16 range and in year school transfers to Cardiff community schools.

Compensation ranges from £19,171 – £21,166 a year depending on experience. Applications are welcomed in both English and Welsh.

4. Receptionist/administrative assistant at Whitchurch High School

Whitchurch High School is looking to hire a receptionist/administrative assistant to start work from September 1.

The position is for term time only and runs from 7.45am until 3.45pm five days per week.

The role, which pays between £18,065 – £19,171 a year depending on experience, is looking for someone to welcome visitors, answer calls and email and carry out requests from management as needed.

5. Store Assistant at Aldi

An Aldi supermarket

Aldi is hiring store assistants in Cardiff and more than 10 other locations.

According to the company advert, assistants do everything from checking off deliveries to dealing with enquiries and ensuring that shelves are fully stocked.

6. Customer Care Coordinator for Persimmon Homes

Persimmon Homes East is hiring a customer care coordinator in Llantrisant.

According to the advert, the successful applicant will be a well organised, self motivated individual and possess good communication skills. It is desirable that applicants will have customer service experience within an office environment, ideally in the building industry but this is not essential.

7. Teaching assistant for Newport Council

Newport Council is hiring for a level one teaching assistant at Rogerstone Primary School.

The successful candidate will be expected to work on a one to one/small group basis with pupils who have additional learning needs.

They will provide support for the class teacher, pupils, curriculum and school.

The main duties will involve delivering learning programs identified in individual learning plans, providing support for pupils in class, under the guidance of the teacher and providing supervision at break and lunch time.

8. Compliance Officer for Poundstretcher

Poundstretcher is looking for a compliance officer with retail experience to conduct unannounced store visits.

The role involves identifying potential risks or issues within stores, ensuring internal policies are adhered to and guiding store teams to help improve store standards.

The Bridal Den in Swansea is looking for a part-time, permanent bridal assistant.

Previous bridal shop experience is desired but not essential for the role.

Toy shop The Entertainer is hiring for a sales assistant in Carmarthen.

12. Maintenance Handyman at Woodside House Nursing Home

The nursing home, located in Port Talbot, is looking for a handyman to carry out day to day maintenance on the fabric of the building, its services and grounds in order to ensure that the care centre is maintained in a safe and efficient functional order.

Successful applicants should have general maintenance knowledge and experience in minor electrical, plumbing and joinery work as well as good Communication skills and a clean driving licence.

The role is Monday through Friday and pays up to £10 per hour.
