Royal Mail postman hit by his OWN van and suffers broken ribs and punctured lung

A postman was badly injured and rushed to hospital in a “frightening accident” when he was run over by his own van in Huddersfield, after it started rolling down a hill by itself

A postman was severely injured and rushed to hospital when he was hit by his own van.

The driver, a man in his 50s, was rushed to hospital with serious injuries on Monday, December 29, after being struck by the Royal Mail van at Crosland Moor, Huddersfield. A Ford Ka driver managed to halt the runaway van from rolling further down the hill.

The Crosland Moor Community Group is now aiming to raise £1,000 for the well-liked postman. In a JustGiving post, the organiser expressed that the community had been “shaken” by the “frightening accident”.

“While carrying out his usual round – something he’s done for so many of us day in, day out – he was tragically run over by his own post van. He has suffered fractured ribs, a punctured lung, and multiple cuts and bruises. Thankfully, he is now receiving medical care, but he has a long and painful recovery ahead.

“Anyone who knows him will tell you he’s more than ‘just the postie’ – he’s a familiar face, a friendly smile, and someone who shows up in all weathers to keep our community connected. Now it’s our turn to show up for him,” reports Yorkshire Live.

“In the chaos of the incident, something truly remarkable also happened. Three individuals in nearby vehicles put themselves in danger to stop the post van from rolling backwards and potentially causing even more serious injuries or damage. Their quick thinking and bravery may well have prevented a far worse outcome.”

The fund has been established to support the injured postman throughout his recovery and to help alleviate the financial and emotional burden. Donors have shared messages of support for the wounded postal worker.

One wrote: “He is a true gentleman and excellent postie. Well done to those who stopped a further accident.”

Another contributor said: “Wishing our postie a speedy and safe recovery. A big shout to the hero who helped prevent this accident being much worse.”

So far, the JustGiving fund has collected £245 from 16 supporters.
