Christmas is a time where many go all out with the decorations even making the outside of their homes festive, but that can prove a problem for posties as one Royal Mail postman told MyLondon.
The workload for postmen has increased as a result of people not being able to see their families to share gifts in person so having to post them instead and some have expressed their frustration about delivering packages to decorated houses.
One postman, who has worked for Royal Mail in London for more than five years, said that decorations on the front of houses ‘can be a pain in the a***’ when trying to deliver post.
The Royal Mail worker, who wanted to remain anonymous, told MyLondon: “Those big bows over the letterboxes can be a pain in the a***.
“They cover the letterboxes but still expect us to get their letters though.
“Do they want deliveries or not?”
He went on to reveal that he has had to move decorations in order to post letters and on one occasion he had even been shouted at for doing so, so has now resulted in knocking when delivering letters.
He said: “”One idiot shouted at me down the road after I moved it to the side to get the letters through. He said I had torn a bit.
“These bell***s put them up, order lots of things and then have a go at us if they are touched.”
However he has said that he’s not against the decorations, just that people should think about the placement of them.
“I get why people want them, just don’t put them up and shout at us – you know what I mean!”
“Or better yet, get ones that don’t block the letterbox,” he added.
Meanwhile, another postie has struggled with other door decorations – with some of them even falling on him.
He said: “Those bow things can be a bit annoying but I’ve kind of gotten used to them now.
“People need cheering up this year… I have seen more of them about.”
“I have had more of a problem with wreaths to tell you the truth.
“A couple have fallen on me after I knocked, but luckily they were quite light.”
MyLondon approached Royal Mail for comment.
