A Royal Mail worker, in her 30s, was attacked by two people in Newtown, New Mills, before they stole parcels from her van, with Derbyshire Police descriptions of two suspects
A postwoman was punched in the stomach during a terrifying robbery where parcels were taken from her van with police hunting her attackers.
Derbyshire Constabulary has given the description of two people who are suspected of carrying out the attack in Goyt View, Newtown on December 17. The Royal Mail worker, aged in her 30s, was punched in the stomach before the packages were taken.
The two people wanted by police appeared to be dressed up as highway maintenance workers and are believed to have been driving a white Ford Transit van. One of them is said to be a white man, with a large build, who had dark hair and is thought to be aged in his 30s or 40s. He was wearing a green parker coat and a black woollen bobble hat.
The second suspect, whose gender is uncertain, is also white and aged in their 30s or early 40s while they were wearing a grey tracksuit, along with a yellow hi-viz vest and a dark coloured baseball cap.
The force stated: “A Royal Mail worker was assaulted and then had packages stolen during an incident in the High Peak. The incident took place at 11am on Wednesday 17 December in Goyt View, Newtown, and saw the Royal Mail worker, a woman in her 30s, approached by two people, one of who punched her in the stomach, before packages were stolen from her red Royal Mail van.
“The two people, who were driving what was described as a white Ford Transit van and appeared to be highway maintenance workers, were described as: Person 1 – white man, of large build, in his 30s/40s, dark hair, and was wearing a green parker coat, and a black woollen bobble hat.
“Person 2 – unknown gender, white, in their 30s or early 40s, wearing a grey tracksuit, a yellow hi-viz vest, and a dark coloured baseball cap.”
The police are appealing for anyone with information or footage from the incident to get in touch. The statement from Derbyshire Constabulary added: “Officers have been following a number of lines enquiry and are now asking for the public’s help to try and identify those involved. Of particular interest are anyone with CCTV or doorbell footage from the area at the time, as well as any drivers with dashcam footage.”
