Royal Mail releases special stamps to mark England’s cricket triumphs

Stamps celebrating England’s Cricket World Cup winners are to go on sale next month.

Photos of the men’s and women’s national teams have been printed onto eight first class stamps, which will be available from September 26.

The preview of Royal Mail’s tribute comes just days after England secured an astonishing Ashes win at Headingley.

Each special edition sheet will cost £4.60, with the men’s version capturing four celebratory moments from England’s victory at Lord’s.

It is the first time England men’s and women’s cricket teams have held both trophies simultaneously.

Royal Mail has also painted 15 of its post boxes white with a stylised gold cricket bat, ball and stumps in honour of the two teams’ achievements.

The box outside Lord’s was the first to be decorated with the special design.

They will retain the look for three months before they return to their signature red colour.

It’s not the first time Royal Mail has changed the boxes to mark a special occasion.

In 2012 they were painted gold to celebrate Team GB’s performance in the London Olympics.
