Royal Mail responds to complaint over delayed post

Frank Swinnerton, who lives in the Garden Village area, contacted The Leader to tell us about the ongoing issue.

He claims he has only been receiving his mail ‘once or twice’ a week for the last ‘three or four months’.

And this has even led to him very nearly missing a ‘crucial’ hospital appointment as he says he only got the letter for the appointment at Wrexham Maelor the day before it was taking place.

“We also had Christmas cards turn up after the day itself had been,” he said.

“I have contacted my local councillor Andy Williams and I have also tried to get answers from Royal Mail directly about this, as it’s just not on,” he added. “But, I have had no luck yet. I just want to know why this has happened, it’s frustrating.”

A Royal Mail spokesperson said: “We know how important letters are, and while the vast majority of mail continues to be delivered on time, there have been short-term pressures affecting parts of this route over the festive period and into this week.

“We’re working to address these issues and improve service reliability for this customer.”

Speaking after being told that Royal Mail would try to address the situation, Mr Swinnerton said: “I really hope they do as soon as possible. My hospital appointment was related to my aorta, which two of my friends have died after having complications with.

“Had my post arrived a day later, I’d have missed that and then who knows what could have happened.”

Mail should be delivered to addresses six days a week if Royal Mail has it.

In December 2025, they did warn that “local issues” might mean “this may temporarily not be possible” – although Garden Village was not one of the areas listed as being affected by this.

A month earlier in November, Royal Mail revealed that less than three quarters of first class mail was delivered on time over recent months, as it prepared to overhaul its letter delivery services.

The delivery giant said 73.4% of first class post was delivered the next working day between June 20 and September 28.

It also reported that 90.4% of second class mail was delivered within three working days.

Royal Mail was fined £21 million by regulator Ofcom for missing its mail delivery targets for the 2024-25 financial year.

During the year, it had delivered 77% of first class mail and 92.5% of second class mail on time.
