Royal Mail responds to complaints from Kidderminster residents

It says it is working to get back to a “consistent service as quickly as possible” after weeks of disruption and has blamed the busy festive period and bad weather for delays.

Scores of fed-up residents have complained to Kidderminster councillor Leigh Whitehouse and MP Mark Garnier – with the pair contacting Royal Mail on their behalf.

Councillor Leigh Whitehouse said: “I’ve recently been contacted by residents about ongoing problems with letter deliveries, particularly in Kidderminster and Stourport. I’ve experienced delays of well over a week for 1st class mail too.

“Because of these concerns, I’ve written to Royal Mail to ask what issues they are facing with deliveries.

“There appears to be a growing focus on parcels, with letters seemingly pushed aside – which is completely unacceptable.

“Management at Royal Mail should grip this issue. This is in no way a negative reflection on our much-supported local posties”

Mark Garnier MP put a post out on social media asking for people who have experienced problems to send him their postcodes and received hundreds of responses.

One person responded saying: “l received a NHS letter on December 6th to inform me that l had an appointment at Worcester hospital on 28th November.”

Another said: “My daughter didn’t receive any of her birthday cards.”

The Royal Mail website states that postcodes DY10, DY11, DY12, DY13 and DY14 are listed as “still experiencing the impact of the recent severe weather.”

A Royal Mail spokesperson said: “We know how important timely letters are and want to reassure customers that the vast majority of mail continues to be delivered on time.

“However, there have been short-term pressures affecting certain routes.

“The festive period is our busiest time of year, with volumes more than doubling, followed by poor weather earlier this month which affected some deliveries.

“We’re working to restore a more consistent service as quickly as possible.”
