Royal Mail sack postman who failed to help woman in Falkirk Scotland | UK | News

The postman told vulnerable Patricia Stewart, 72, he was too tired to help her get to her feet after her stumble on her driveway in sub-zero temperatures. Footage shows Patricia, who has a bone disease, appear to converse with the postie, who then brazenly walks away from her.

When she asked for help, the callous postman said: “I can’t help pal, I’m knackered. Absolutely knackered.”

Patricia was eventually rescued 20 minutes later by another delivery driver in Falkirk, Scotland.

Royal Mail investigated the incident, which happened in February.

A spokesman for the company told Daily Record: “We can confirm that the individual concerned has left the business. We are sorry for the distress this incident has caused.”

Speaking after the footage emerged, Patricia’s niece, Sheryl Harkins, said: “A Royal Mail manager came to deliver a box of chocolates but didn’t explain what is going to happen to the postman.

“He doesn’t normally do this route and we have been told he’s been off since on the sick. We are determined to get answers over this.

“It isn’t good enough.”

Sheryl wrote to Royal Mail after the incident and the company said it would investigate the actions.

Parcel rules are set to change in the UK, regulator Ofcom said last week.

Nearly two-thirds of Britons reported suffering problems with their deliveries in a poll recently.
