Royal Mail shares weekend update – includes disruption to major city

Royal Mail has shared a service update for this weekend (Saturday 23 and Sunday 24). Some parts of the UK are expected to be hit by postal delays.

The postal service told customers: “Weekend delivery and collection services are expected to take place on Saturday, September 23 and parcel deliveries on Sunday, September 24.”

Royal Mail urged customers to visit https://www.royalmail.com/services-near-you#/ for Customer Service Point opening times, in order to collect urgent items for which a ‘Something for you’ card has been left.

Regarding deliveries this weekend, Royal Mail stated: “Deliveries are operating as normal across the UK today. We aim to deliver to all addresses we have mail for, six days a week.

“In a small number of local offices, this may temporarily not be possible due to local issues such as high levels of sick absence, resourcing, or other local factors.

“In those cases, we will rotate deliveries to minimise the delay to individual customers.

“We also provide targeted support to those offices to address their challenges and restore our service to the high standard our customers would normally receive.”

The postal service apologised for any inconvenience caused by delays and listed which offices are likely to be most impacted.

Offices most impacted

Bridgwater DO (TA5, TA6 and TA7)

Pulborough DO (RH20)

Teddington DO (TW11)

Yatton SUDO (BS49)

Royal Mail gave an extra update for customers in Scotland’s biggest city. The postal service explained: “Our Glasgow G21-G22 Delivery Office and Customer Service Point (284 Hawthorn Street, Glasgow, G22 6RY) are closed for health and safety reasons.

“Customers are kindly asked not to visit to attempt collection or drop off mail items because the office is inaccessible to staff and customers.

“Customers for whom we’ve left a ‘Something for you’ card can arrange a redelivery free of charge to their address, an alternative address in the same postcode area or a local Post Office.”

Customers in the G21(1-4) postcode areas – can collect their items from Glasgow G1-5 Delivery Office, Baird Street, Glasgow, G4 0AA. Customers in the G22(5-7) postcode areas – can collect their items from Glasgow G20-G23 Delivery Office, 22 Lochburn Road, Glasgow, G20 9AN.
