Royal Mail shares which UK areas will be affected by postal delays this weekend

Royal Mail aims to deliver to all addresses it has mail for, six days a week.

However, this is not always possible due to high levels of staff sickness absences, resourcing issues, poor weather conditions or other local factors.

When delays occur, Royal Mail aims to minimise disruption to customers by rotating deliveries and providing targeted support to affected offices to address any challenges.

Weekend delivery and collection services are expected to take place on Saturday August 5 and parcel deliveries on Sunday August 6.

To collect urgent items for which Royal Mail has left a ‘Something for you’ card, the postal service urged customers to consult https://www.royalmail.com/services-near-you#/ for their Customer Service Point opening times.

However, Royal Mail apologised for customers affected by delays in particular areas across the UK. The office most impacted this weekend is Newport East DO (NP18 and NP19).

The postal servicew also announced potential disruption due to the UCI World Cycling event in Scotland, taking place between August 3 – August 13 2023.

Royal Mail stated: “The UCI World Cycling event is taking place across Glasgow and other venues in Scotland from Thursday August 3 until Sunday August 11.

“During this time, access and service in the G1-5, G11, G12, G20, G23, G61, G63, G64, G66, G82, G83 and G84 areas are likely to be affected.

“Disruption to deliveries, collections and some other services is expected to be ongoing throughout this period and could be subject to change with little or no warning.

“We will aim to work as normal, although this might not always be possible due to road closures and access around the event locations and surrounding areas.”

Customer Service Points will still remain open for customers to drop off their mail. But, if Royal Mail has not left a ‘Something for you card’, mail will be unavailable for collection. Customers in the affected areas have been informed of the potential disruption.

Wokingham Delivery Office (RG40 and RG41) may also face disruption due to flooding.

Royal Mail apologised for any inconvenience caused but reassured affected customers: “Contingency plans are in place to deliver as much mail as possible from a neighbouring delivery office.

“If you’ve recently received a ‘Something for you’ card and wish to collect your mail, please wait until we update this page to confirm Wokingham Delivery Office has reopened.”

In the service update, Royal Mail also shared that the pre-existing ferry service will send and receive post from Jersey as opposed to the current dedicated postal flight, resulting in a two-day service. Customers can expect this change from Monday August 7.
