TRADE unionists slammed Royal Mail bosses today for focussing on “trialling drones, rather than supporting posties” during a Scottish Parliament committee hearing.
Royal Mail’s director of operations development, Ricky McAulay, has come under fire for his appearance at the economy and fair work committee this week.
Communications Workers’ Union (CWU) Scotland secretary Craig Anderson said: “This was an opportunity for the Royal Mail top brass to apologise to staff for their behaviour over the past 18 months, and to apologise to the public for their terrible mismanagement — including siphoning-off three quarters of a billion pounds to shareholders — of a national asset which has risked the Royal Mail’s very existence.
“We heard no contrition, only ‘pie-in-the-sky’ comments on trialling the use of drones, rather than supporting our posties.
“Only as a result of the action from loyal and committed postal workers has the Royal Mail made concessions to the CWU over the future of their jobs and industry.
“It is now essential that Royal Mail holds up its end of that agreement, ends the toxic environment which senior management created, and allows postal workers to get on with delivering the vital postal services our country needs.”
