Great Britain’s Royal Mail depicts spiders on 10 stamps in a Sept. 26 issue.
Each stamp shows a vivid illustration of a spider against a white background, and all of the spiders pictured on the stamps can be found in the United Kingdom.
David Gold, director of external affairs and policy at Royal Mail, said: “Many people are scared of spiders, but these colourful creatures deserve a second look. They perform a vital role in nature and have fascinating strategies for survival. As these stamps show, there’s far more to spiders than the hairy cartoon version we love to hate!”
The stamps are presented in two horizontal se-tenant (side-by-side) strips of five. The stamps in one strip are valued at the first-class rate (currently £1.35) and the stamps in the other are valued at the second-class rate (currently 85 pence).
The second-class stamps show the sand bear spider, cucumber spider, woodland jumping spider, four-spotted orbweb spider and the nurseryweb spider. …
The first-class stamps show the ladybird spider; candy-striped spider; wasp spider; zebra spider; and heather crab spider.
The stamps and related products can be ordered from Royal Mail’s website. Ordering information also is available from Royal Mail, Tallents House, 21 S. Gyle Crescent, Edinburgh, EH12 9PB, Scotland.
