This past month, Brynmawr residents have not been receiving anything on time in the post.
The Royal Mail were contacted for comment and said that a period of ‘high sickness’ at the local sorting office in Ebbw Vale was behind the apparent mail shortage.

Deliveries are being made daily to all addresses in Brynmawr when there is mail to deliver, but a period of high sickness absence several weeks ago meant that deliveries briefly took place every other day.”
From online parcel orders to important documents like household bills and doctors letters the ‘vanishing post’ has caused all sorts of issues.

Glyn Harvard wrote on July 2: “Anyone else not getting any Royal Mail post lately? This is the second time in a month we’ve had a seriously overdue parcel. Come to think of it, I haven’t seen a post office van in the area for around a fortnight now.”
Claire Moseley commented: “We only get mail once a week now I’ve missed hospital appointments and correspondences. Sometimes we don’t get mail for almost two weeks.”
David Lyn Elias said: “Only have post once a week normally on Saturday already missed hospital appointment.”
We carried out investigations in Brynmawr to see if this sort of thing happens a lot. Here’s how locals were impacted!
Cheryl Williams was one resident at risk of missing a GP appointment from a Royal Mail staff shortage in Brynmawr (Left) (Image: NQ) Cheryl Williams 66, was just one of many Brynmawr locals whose doctor’s letter wasn’t on time.
She explained: “I live in Bryn Farm, I went to the doctors to have a blood test, and they text me on my phone luckily, if they didn’t, I would have missed it, but I received a letter on Saturday, and it was meant to be delivered on the 10th, but it was a week later.”
Andrew Burton received a letter from 2017 last week! (Image: NQ) 61-year-old Andrew Burton has received letters from 2017 recently!
He said: “I used to get post literally every day, and I seem to be getting two deliveries a week, but they are big deliveries as opposed to multiple deliveries.
“Last week, I two Royal Mail envelopes. One was a certificate for my youngest in college now he finished his college course in 2017.”
Andrew speculated: “I’ve heard on the news to reduce costs they might reduce the deliveries to every other day and it’s obviously happening.”
Martha Symonds said this ‘happens a lot’ (Central) (Image: NQ) Maratha Symonds 69, says this ‘happens a lot.’
She said: “My friend sent me a get-well card on the Monday, which was what ten days ago and I still haven’t received it in the post I’m still waiting for it.”
“The letter was from Blaenavon which is only a few miles away. It’s something that happens a lot I sent an anniversary card to my son from Brynmawr to Bristol, and it took a week, and it missed their anniversary it was awful.”
Rhys Rosser-Young said people with bills were impacted (Image: NQ) Rhys Rosser-Young 29, owns the Rustic Stag café. He was one of the residents expecting letters relating to household bills.
He said: “Literally about two or three days ago we had maybe ten letters through the door, and it was quite frustrating especially when you’re expecting stuff to come.
“Bills, was mainly one of them and it makes us fall behind then so it was quite annoying.”
The Royal Mail is working to resolve the issue.
