Royal Mail staff to strike on Christmas Eve

The strike action is on top of the four days already announced for late November, which covers peak delivery periods including Black Friday on 25 November and Cyber Monday on 28 November.

The CWU, which represents employees working for the UK’s telephone, cable, digital subscriber line and postal delivery companies, announced today that the workforce voted by a 91.2% majority for further strikes.

The new strikes have been called for 9, 11, 14, 15, 23 and 24 December, which are among the busiest days of the year for deliveries.

A CWU spokesperson said: “The CWU want a negotiated settlement with Royal Mail Group and will continue to engage the company to that end. But those in charge of Royal Mail need to wake up and realise we won’t allow them to destroy the livelihoods of postal workers.”
