Royal Mail stamps new for spring and summer 2022- Check out the new collection

The new set of stamps features migratory birds to celebrate our bird visitors that explore the UK from spring into summer.

One of Europe’s best-known bird artists, Irish ornithologist Killian Mullarney, was the illustrator behind the project.

Mullarney has also had his work featured in the Collins Bird Guide as well as on stamps issued in the Republic of Ireland.

The stamps have been designed to showcase the diversity of migratory birds that come to the UK.

We are lucky enough to see seabirds that explore a vast coastline and we can often spot the likes of the Arctic skua and Arctic tern.

Avid bird watchers may have also seen the more rare bird of prey, Montagu’s harrier.

The stone-curlew, swallow, swift, turtle dove and yellow wagtail are among the other birds featured on the stamps.

David Gold, of Royal Mail, said: “The migratory journeys of the birds featured on these stamps are truly amazing. Their annual travels have fascinated and baffled naturalists for centuries.

“It is only now that we are beginning to understand what drives and maintains this amazing, high-risk–high-reward behaviour. We hope that these stamps ignite a new interest in this remarkable phenomenon.”

You will be able to pick up the stamps from Thursday April 7.
